BLUE APRIL
Spring / summer 2022

STORY TELLING
My great-grandmother was a songwriter and a composer, and one of the songs she wrote is called ,,Blue April’’. During the creation of my latest collection, upon learning about this song, I immediately knew It should have been the title. I designed these specific garments for the scholarship program at IED University Milano. Through previous photo-shoots and the overall process, I gained valuable experience in organising everything from start to finish. As a fashion designer, it’s essential to take the lead in every aspect of the process, and this collection taught me many things, especially in time management and working process behaviour.
For instance, I made a mistake while working on this collection by sewing 4-5 looks simultaneously. When the photo-shoot came, I had all of them ready but only 60-70% completed. It was a somewhat a painful experience because I couldn’t capture pictures of them, but in subsequent ones, I rectified my mistake. Another lesson I learned was the time required to capture a good campaign photo for a single look. I realised that 20-30 minutes are not sufficient. You need approximately 1-2 hours for each look. Also sharing responsibilities is not a shame. I took on the roles of the photographer, a stylist and fashion designer simultaneously, and I discovered that having a team plays an enormous role in creating high-quality collection. The process becomes especially enjoyable when the photographer is skilled, the model is experienced, and the environment is filled with motivation.
